چکیده

To date, direct interactions between pests and natural enemies are often considered in biocontrol programs. Recently there has been an increase of evidence for the importance third-party mediated indirect determining population dynamics insects. Predicting strength such remains a central challenge assessments. Here, two field experiments were performed years to investigate which extent Dysaphis plantaginea Passerini, Aphis pomi De Geer, Myzus cerasi Fabricius might indirectly interact through shared ants. We first studied target insects isolated orchards apples cherries. Secondly, we investigated how spatial coexistence aphid-infested cherries can affect apple aphids via In experiment, nine parasitoid species recorded on cherry aphids, among them three common. Six predatory families found while only one ant species, Lasius niger L., was associating with these aphids. second temporal variation enemy-mediated apparent competition M. found. The aphid is likely be important source that attack early season. Significantly reduced numbers ants intercropping habitat Our results emphasize considering designing pest management strategies.

Early-season predation on aphids by winter-active spiders in apple orchards revealed by diagnostic PCR.

Aphids are major pests in apple orchards, debilitating the crop and spreading disease. We investigated whether early-season predation by canopy spiders may be effectively controlling aphid numbers in three organic orchards. For this purpose, we monitored the aphid population dynamics from the winter eggs to colony stages and compared this to spider abundances and rates of predation on aphids de...

Robotic Surveying of Apple Orchards

We present a novel system for surveying apple orchards by counting apples and estimating apple diameters. Existing surveying systems resort to active sensors, or high-resolution close-up images under controlled lighting conditions. The main novelty of our system is the use of a traditional low resolution stereo-system mounted on a small aerial vehicle. Vision processing in this set up is challe...

Long Term Vole Control in Ontario Apple Orchards

'!he results obtained so far in this 3 year study have shown that the plots with poisoned bait feeder stations suffered significantly less tree girdling than the plots treated with the fall broadcast application of 2% zinc phosphide. Similar timings were also observed in number of voles per plot, however, the vole population was much lower than the previous year. Cbnsiderable interest has been ...
